Phonics
Students will learn letters (upper and lower case) and the sounds they make. Then to blend sounds in simple words.

Reader’s
Workshop
The teacher will provide reading lessons that guide the students as they make meaning of the books they listen to and books they read on their own independent reading level. Students will also have opportunities to discuss books with their peers during “Turn & Talk”
8:40 – 9:35
Specials
Students will attend Special Classes on a rotating basis (Music, Computers, PE, Art, Library)
9:35 – 10:55 Guided Reading & Words Their Way
This is a chance for the teacher to pull small reading groups and to provide reading instruction at each student’s individual level. The students not meeting with the teacher will be practicing literacy skills independently or working with an assistant on Words Their Way or other reading activities.

Calendar
We build oral language skills in context of our calendar. We reinforce our math skills in counting, patterns, what comes next, days of the week,etc.
11:45 – 12:30
Math Workshop
The teacher will provide a math mini lesson to the whole group. New skills are introduced or reviewed during this period.Students work individually or within a small group to complete math tasks that reinforce the skills taught. These tasks are highly engaging, so the students LOVE THEM! The teacher will provide individual or small group instruction during this block.
12:30 – 1:10
Science or Social Studies
Students will learn science and social studies content during this time. NOTE: Often times the texts selected during reader’s workshop will support the content being discussed during our content area studies.
1:10 – 1:45
Making Meaning or Writer’s Workshop
This is an interactive reading activity where students join in and respond to the reading of a poem, book, or other text and build their vocabulary. The teacher will provide writing lessons that will guide the students as they make meaning in their illustrations and writing composition. Students write on a topic of their own choice, to state an opinion or to tell information.
